Why the FA Cup is better than the Premier League
|
I fucking love the FA Cup. Sadly, I am in the minority these days.
Modern football fans seem to think that football started in 1992, when the Premier League and the Champions League came into existence. This is where it's at for modern footballers. What a fucking crock of shit.
The FA Cup is the one link we have to a footballing past that was better than modern football. It's probably fair to say that up to the 1970's the FA Cup was actually considered more important than that league. If you look at old photos you often see the banner so and so for the cup! Not the fucking league. It is the platform that ordinary men playing amateur football get the opportunity to become stars. Take this case in point, probably the most famous example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-ze42I6NEo
Well done Ronnie Radford. This is the best example of why the FA Cup is so fucking brilliant. This is a man who on the monday afterwards was up some blokes roof mending it. Watch the clip, fans invading the pitch without murderous intent or solely to wind up the away fans and coppers good naturedly clearing them without hassle or violence we have seen from them since.
There are ex footballers out there sitting at home with league and cup winners medals sitting in their cupboards who live in the memory much, much less these days that the great Ronnie Radford, a roofer who scored a goal 43 years ago. Very few old footballers get remembered by everyone nearly 50 years later but EVERYONE, even those of us who weren't even born then (me by 5 months!) fucking knows who Ronnie Radford is. Because that's what the FA Cup can do.
So fuck you Sam and the other managers that treat the best football competition in the world (bar NONE) like it's a joke. No fucker will remember you in 50 years, but they will still be talking about Ronnie Radford.

Straight knockout football has always been, and always will be, better than any other format.
The reason the European Cup was better than the Champions League and the UEFA Cup was better than the Europa League is because it was drawn randomly and if you weren't good enough on the day then it's tough shit. The fact it's all or nothing makes it more exciting and leads to better games.
As I have said many times before. No manager ever (EVER) complains that there are too many matches because they've had to play the Albanian runners-up away on Wednesday night, it's always the domestic cup or league.
TV has killed the European competitions. Even the UEFA Cup used to be a great competition worth winning. Ditto Cup Winners Cup

I've got to say I'm 100% certain I'll never experience a 4th Round weekend like the one that started Friday evening (CUNTS) - and I doubt many of us will.
That was a totally amazing set of results - so amazing a half decent conspiracy theorist could cobble something together along the lines that certain teams were told to throw their tie in order to make the competition more exciting (read sell-able).
That being said, should the unthinkable happen and both Liverpool & Man U not survive, no cunt of a national TV station outside the UK is going to be interested in the competition this year.

It's knockout football and knockout football is great. just look at how the once great UEFA Cup- one of the best club tournaments in the world for me- has been bastardised by UEFA/FIFA.
That's probably the most infamous example of how the modern game has been fucked in the arse. I tend not to go on about it though due to my age and the fact that I know that many aspects of the aren't as good as they used to be but it's what I've grown up with.

Not sure what his problem is. The vibes from West Brom are they are happy enough to get a bit of a bidding war going and will let him go. May well be his last game for them and he ends it with the match ball and a mouth like a CATS ARSE.

Watching MOTD Berahino scores 4 goals and looks like he has just been told someone has shat in his kitbag after each one. Is going to move to Spurs or Liverpool soon but why act like such a massive cunt towards a club that have given him a chance?

I think the FA cup magic thing is bullshit really.
Well it may be for you Ron but I KNOW it wasn't for me because I felt it several times and I'm guessing that it wasn't for thousands of other football fans over the years too

As I said before Woody. I used to get a couple of cup games for free. Before and after the premiership was formed.
I like the cup but there's a massive rewrite of history. Gates have been lower for cup games regularly.
Lower league clubs get higher gates usually because they play bigger sides.
Sold is just pissed off that mid 80's got a gate of 11,400 at home in the FA cup. Despite winning it twice in a decade too!
